Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope this email finds you and your family well! One of the main issues I consistently hear about from you is how unaffordable living in Washington state has become, especially when it comes to the constant rise in taxes.
Majority party Democrats have raised taxes significantly the last three years, including but not limited to a new payroll tax set to begin in January, a new income tax on capital gains, and the steady increase in transportation-related taxes.
Our state tax collections remain strong. There is plenty of revenue to pay for our state's priorities and needs without raising your taxes. As a Legislature, we should be talking about tax relief, not constant tax increases. Opposing new tax increases will remain a top priority of mine.
There is an opportunity before you to voice your questions and concerns regarding the state's tax structure. I encourage everyone to attend one of two sessions of The Tax Structure Work Group's virtual tax town hall. Details are below, including the Zoom link to sign-up.
The Tax Structure Work Group (TSWG) is holding seven town halls around the state, beginning Sept. 22 and ending Nov. 3. You can find the details, including the breakdown of legislative districts by clicking here.
The Washington State Legislature established the TSWG to identify options to make the Washington State tax code more equitable, adequate, stable, and transparent. As of 2019, the TSWG is comprised of bipartisan Washington State legislators, as well as representatives from the Governor's Office, Washington State Department of Revenue, Washington State Association of Counties, and Association of Washington Cities. The TSWG facilitates public discussions throughout the state about the advantages and disadvantages of the state's current and potential tax structure. We want to hear from you! We want to hear your recommendations on how we could improve Washington State's tax structure to benefit individuals, families, and businesses in Washington State.
If you have any additional questions, thoughts, or comments, please contact my office. As always, thank you for the opportunity and the honor to serve you, your family, and our communities as your State Representative.
May God richly bless you all!
