Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It's been nearly one month since the Legislature adjourned for 2016. I have enjoyed being back in the district, getting back to work and spending time with family. I have also been meeting with community groups and leaders to discuss the issues facing our state. I leave these meetings energized and know that by working together, we can improve our great state.

The last two years have presented challenges in Olympia, but we have made progress in some very important areas, especially public safety and education. Since coming to Olympia, these have been two of my top priorities. As a law enforcement officer working in schools, I see the challenges our students and teachers face each day. I remain committed to doing all I can to improve our K-12 system so all students can have the opportunity to succeed.

Public safety is a core responsibility of state government. As the ranking member on the House Public Safety Committee, I fought to strengthen DUI laws and improve protections for victims of crime. I am proud to report several public safety bills I sponsored were signed into law. You can read more about those bills here.

When we return to Olympia next year, there will be another lengthy list of issues we must tackle. I look forward to working with my colleagues to meet our constitutional obligation to fully fund K-12 education, improve public safety and improve care for the most vulnerable members of our communities. I also believe we must be better stewards of the people's money. I will work for a budget that does not raise taxes and is fiscally responsible.

Since 2016 is an election year, this is the final email update I am able to send until late December. Fortunately, I can respond directly to constituents who contact my office. I stand ready to assist you navigate state government and look forward to answering your questions. Over the coming months, I hope you will take time to contact me to share your comments, concerns and ideas. Also, if you would like me to speak to your community group, school or business, please contact my office to make arrangements.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you! May God richly bless you! Have a great Washington day!
