The state House of Representatives Thursday approved a resolution honoring the men and women of the Washington National Guard. John Sattgast reports from Olympia.

Sattgast: The measure was co-sponsored by Republican State Representative Brad Klippert of Kennewick, who has served for more than 28 years in the Army National Guard and Reserve.

Klippert: “The men and woman of the National Guard, both Army and Air, are citizen soldiers who are both our guardians and warriors, whether it's snowstorms, floods, earthquakes, wildfires, or as we have heard, the very dangerous threat that faces them when they go across the world to fight our nation's wars.”

Sattgast: Klippert took time on the House floor to pay special tribute to National Guard Staff Sergeant Matthew McClintock. The 30-year Des Moines soldier was killed during a firefight last month in Afghanistan. Said Klippert, he “was one of America's heroes.”

Lawmakers unanimously approved the resolution.
