Kiona-Benton High School sophomore serves as legislative page

Dyoni Shuster served as a page Jan. 29 to Feb. 3 in the Washington State House of Representatives. The Kiona-Benton High School 10th grader was sponsored during her week in Olympia by Rep. Brad Klippert, R- Kennewick.

“Sponsoring Dyoni was a pleasure and I am pleased she had the opportunity to take part in the page program,” said Klippert. “These young students put in long hours and work very hard, but I think many of them gain a greater appreciation for the legislative process in our state.”

Dyoni was responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators offices, committee rooms, and the House Chambers. Pages will also participate in various ceremonial tasks, such as presenting flags before floor sessions. Along with Dyoni's assigned duties, she also continued her regular schoolwork and attended page school to learn about state government.

Dyoni is the 16-year-old daughter of Carianne and Jim Shuster of Benton City.

In addition to sponsorship by a legislator, pages are required to have a grade-point average of C+ or better and obtain permission from their parents and school.
