Kiona-Benton youth serves as legislative page

Colby Crawford served as a page March 20-25 in the Washington State House of Representatives. The Kiona-Benton Middle School 8th grader was sponsored during his week in Olympia by Rep. Brad Klippert, R- Kennewick.

“I enjoyed sponsoring Colby, and am pleased he had the opportunity to be part of the page program,” said Klippert. “These young people put in some long hours, but I think they leave the Capitol with a greater appreciation of the Legislature and the process by which bills become law in our state.”

Colby was responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators in their offices, committee rooms, and in the House Chambers. Pages also participate in various ceremonial tasks, such as presenting flags before floor sessions. Along with his assigned duties, he also continued his regular schoolwork and attended page school to learn about state government.

Colby is the 14-year-old son of Brad and Mary Crawford of Benton City.

In addition to sponsorship by a legislator, pages are required to have a grade-point average of C+ or better and obtain permission from their parents and school.
